We're happy to finally be able to source from Raw Material Coffee again. They are a non-profit importer based in the UK who are heavily involved in each origin they sell coffee from, ensuring tracability, transparency and fair pricing.

We bought two lots from the Kilimbi Washing Station in Nyamasheke, run by Muraho Trading Co. The station was built in 2016 and was one of the first two washing stations to be approved for production of Natural and Honey process in Rwanda. Their altitude and wide open areas allow them to dry coffee with stable temperature and ample airflow, producing higher quality Naturals.

The Washed lot we bought is clean and showcases the potential of Rwandan coffees.

Baked apple, red fruits, ice tea

The Natural lot is heavier and richer, with more complex fruit flavours.

Blueberry, pear, floral hops

Region: Nyamasheke, Rwanda

Cultivar: Red Bourbon

Altitude: 1600 -1650 masl

Process: Washed and Natural

Cupping score:

#1 Clean your brewing equipment!

#2 Use a scale or something to measure with!

#3 Use a burr grinder and follow a brewing recipe for more consistent results.

Suggested brewing recipe:

Both lots of this coffee are fruity in different ways. We prefer to brew this with a brewing method that gives a balanced extraction with high clarity, like a V60, Orea or April Brewer.

• 50g bloom for 30 seconds
• First pour up to 120g
• Second pour up to 200g
• Third pour up to 250g
• Final pour up to 300g
• Target brew time 3:30 minutes
